Should I switch off the stories?

DS is 8, goes to bed at 8:30 and listens to stories. Loves them, CDs, borrowbox, Calm stories, he listens and listens. But he seems tired during the day, even if he falls asleep at a decent time. Right now he's apparently fast asleep, snoring away but I know if I switch off the stories he will wake up. So are the stories stopping him from going into a deep sleep?

I usually set audiobooks to turn off after an hour. He doesn't wake up though. A couple of times a week he wakes during the night and wants it turned back on until he goes to sleep again.
