Safe Sleeping Help

Hi I have a 1 year old and I was wanting some advice about sleeping. We co-sleep currently following the guidelines however I'm wanting him to sleep in his own cot. The cot he currently has was bought second hand (new mattress) and the mattress is quite high up if that makes sense. So when he goes to sleep, if he wakes up during the night, he tries to climb out of it and will do, and will climb into our bed as it is quite high up.

I live in a one bed flat and my bed and his cot is the only thing we can fit into the room. Obviously been trying to get a two bed but currently unsuccessful. He is breastfed and has his last proper feed at 12. But if he's woken up by my partner, his dad from wriggling he'll look for the boob then.

I want to be able to get him into a good routine where I can put him down at around 7:30/8 without worrying he's gonna try and climb out his cot.

Do I need to buy a separate cot where the mattress is at floor height?

Can you get a new cot that he can't climb out of? Unless he's huge, at 1yr old he should be pretty easily contained.

Have a good look at your cot. Most have more than one mattress height setting.
