Playing in crib instead of sleeping?

Hi guys ,

My daughter is 22 months old, recently she has been playing in her cot at night instead of sleeping.

I take her out everyday , stimulate her as much as i can during the day and wind down the day, i have reduced her naps as well lately as she seems to not need them as much some days she wont have one.

Iv read that this is normal developmental behaviour but it just dont seem right to me.

She goes to bed tired and happy no crying but then 15mins later i can hear her laughing, chatting and stomping.

Does anyone elses 2 year olds do this?

Her little imagination is probably going into overdrive and she's enjoying her 'me time'. If she seems happy enough then I'd leave her to it. She'll probably babble herself to sleep 🥰

My DC did this. They always, as Allchange says, babbled themselves to sleep. So long as they weren't crying or fussing, I just left them to it. Most of their toys were downstairs, so they were just chattering away and singing. It was very sweet. They would sometimes be upside down in bed in the morning.

As long as she is happy and falls to sleep it’s fine.

Yeah, mine went through a similar phase at about the same age, he would lie there chatting away to himself for a good 40 minutes after being put down.

At the moment (26mo) he goes out like a light, I don't think he even moves after I lie him in my cot. Hopefully it lasts 🤞🤞🤞

DS is 22mo. He has started chatting for ages at nap time. Today he spent nearly 2 hours chatting to his teddies and reading books before finally falling asleep. Yesterday he chatted and never napped. He quietens down quicker at night. I think it's a good sign he can entertain himself more now.

Phew , thanks guys. It has really reassured me 🤗, at night time i was sitting there fighting in my head should i get her up should i leave her now i can have some peace of mind lol x

If she's happy I'd leave her. She's just discovering a new thing she can do and actually being able to have a little roll around and stomp to wear off the last of the day and then going to sleep alone is a good skill
