If he can sell settle...

Then why the hell doesn't he at night?!

8mo DS2, did some gentle sleep training around 6m and he quickly got the hang of sucking his thumb to go to sleep. Now for naps and bedtime we do a quick routine, goes in the cot and goes to sleep - sometimes straight away, sometimes rolls around chatting to himself first.

At nap time he links sleep cycles fine, I'll hear him semi wake up then he puts himself back to sleep no problem. Has 2 naps of 1.5hours, with 2.5-3 hours awake time in between.

Bedtime is around 7-7.15. He then wakes up an hour later and then every hour (ish, sometimes 40-80 minutes) until 3am when he then sleeps for 2 hours instead, waking at 5 then 7. All of those times he needs cuddling or feeding back to sleep (depending if it is me or DH). Whyy?! He can settle perfectly well!

He's not hungry, quite happily doesn't have a feed if it is DH going in, will often have a boob if it's me but it makes no difference to the length of his next stretch of sleep.

If he couldn't settle or link sleep cycles it wouldn't bother me half as much, it is just so frustrating. I know he will probably grow out of it soon but we are struggling and could do with some proper sleep ourselves. Anyone else experienced this and have any tips?

Following this thread as I'm in a not exactly the same, but similar situation with my 10 month old! Settled brilliantly for naps and start of sleep but we are still yet to crack night wakings.

My boob monster did this around the same age. Does he fall asleep on the boob?

I linked it to why he was waking was because I was a giant dummy comforter!

I had to unlatch him and lay him down awake to self settle and then he woke less.

Also does he have 3 solid meals per day now too? Is he actually Hungry?

LiG thanks for your response. He doesn't fall asleep on the boob no - he used to but we stopped that at about 4 months because my eldest was a nightmare for it! So no, he falls asleep totally independently apart from occasionally needing a quick bit of shushing/reassurance. Doesn't make a different to his night wakes if he did or didn't get the extra shushing though.

And yes he's on 3 decent meals a day, plus occasionally a snack if he sees my eldest with one. He eats quite a lot already and stops when he's had enough.

@delishdelosh I hate that you're telling me this 🤣

No1 is such a good sleeper I just know no2 will have no resolving answers once it arrives!

Hopefully it's just a stage

@LiG123 sorry 😂 I thought I was owed a decent sleeper after going through all of this with DS1, apparently not! And all the tricks that worked with him don't work this time 😂

Everything's a phase...just this one is a bit long for my liking.

@delishdelosh maybe they're secretly communicating with each other and giving tips to be a pickle 🤪
