DS sleeping on the floor

I'm after some advice. We've recently taken the sides off my son's cot to make it a cotbed as he was starting to climb out. We still settle him and he does go to sleep independently (he can't work the handle to get out of his room yet which helps).

The thing is every night he goes to the door. Sits near it for a bit then goes to sleep on the floor. It breaks my heart to think of him on the floor all night. We tried moving him to the bed a few times but he would usually go back to the floor by the door.

I'm wondering about getting a patterned sheet for his bed e.g. Peppa Pig to make him want to stay in his bed (though it will be dark so I don't really know the point!). I just want to make it better for him.

Any thoughts?

Look at Montessori floor beds, lots of parents make to choice to floor sleep! Basically as long as the room is safe, a mattress on the floor can be a sensible option, as long as you keep it aired and vacuum regularly. (Even if it's just temporary)

Put his mattress and bed clothes on the floor.
A wee nightlight might help?

My kids slept anywhere they liked at that age and it never did them any harm. One time I nearly had a heart attack trying to find DS in the dark when he fell asleep in a built in wardrobe. I think if he were uncomfortable he wouldn’t be sound asleep.

Can he climb back into the bed? Or is it a case that he wants to sleep on floor. Dd went through a phase for over a year of sleeping on floor because she wanted to. Eventually I stopped lifting her back into the bed as she'd only wake up and go back to floor as soon as my back was turned.

My ds is 15 and still chooses to move all his bedding to the floor when he is anxious, says he sleeps much better on the floor. Maybe make up another bed on the floor for him to transfer to during the night?

Maybe some foam interlock tiles to lay for a chunk of the floor. They might help your anxiety.

Kids are bendy though.

Does he have a bed guard on the side of the bed? Not so much to keep him in as obviously he will still be able to get out but more so he feels enclosed and might settle better.

His cot bed is very low down. He's also got a mattress on the floor next to it (in case he rolls out) and we sit on this to settle him. So he's got a lot of choice! I don't know whether to pull something nearer the door. We have got a travel cot mattress I could move to the door way?
