Six month old sleep gone to... help!!

Hi all, wondered if you had any advice or reassurance. LO is six months old and has always been a great sleeper and mostly slept through the night with a dream feed. We also weaned her off a dummy a couple of weeks ago.

This has all gone to pot recently. We were using the Sleepyhead surround in her cot to wean her off but she rolled and her head landed on it and she stayed asleep but she effectively had her head on it like a pillow so we didn’t feel it was safe anymore. Since removing she’s really struggled with sleep, we were close to dropping the third nap and now she’s doing short naps. Worst of all she’s hysterical when we’re trying to settle her for naps and bedtime and is waking up in the night multiple times really upset. It takes about 30 minutes of her screaming before we can settle her.

She’s been self settling for a while, does most of her naps in the cot in the pitch black with white noise and all the other sleep associations that are recommended. She just seems to hate sleeping without the Sleepyhead. As soon as we pick her up she stops crying. Is this a sleep regression? Or could it be separation anxiety? I’m at a loss as to what to do without putting the sleepyhead back in but we’ll have this same problem down the line. Thanks!

We had the same when taking away the sleepy head. It didn't take him long to get used to it though, maybe a week at most. How long since you took the sleepy head away?

Thanks Agradecida. So we took it away Friday so it’s not been a week yet. It’s only been the past two nights we’ve had this hysterical crying so that’s why I wondered if it was separation anxiety.

It seems like tonight she’s just forgotten how she self settles herself Confused
