ds, nearly 9 months wakes at 6 ish every morning. is on 3 bottles a day, and three meals, although not a lot for breakfast. he obviously wakes hungry and downs his bottle like he's nt eaten in a week! then goes back to bed till about 8am, when i have to wake him. how can i get him to last that bit longer?? he has last bottle at 7pm, and is in bed for 7.30pm

My dd never did and never has done a 12-hour night. At your Ds's age she was doing the same as he is and then at some point she stopped going back to sleep after the early morning drink. She's 2 now and does between 10.5-11 hours sleep a night and 2 hours in the day which adds up to the right amount. I wouldn't knock it if I were you, sleeping in until 8am is pretty cosy

sounds like sleepwise, he definitely needs those extra 2 hours. fantastic. at 6am, bore him with a bottle of water, saying 'it's still nighttime, it's not time for milk yet' and with luck he might see it's not worth waking at that time.
to soften the blow, rather than just going cold turkey, you might need to shrink the amount of milk he is getting at 6am over the next week or so, dropping an ounce or two a day until his tummy learns to last until 8. it can be done, honest. it's just a matter of adjusting his appetite. he can have the rest of the milk at breakfast time. once you've shrunk the bottle down to 2 ounces or so, try the water trick. if you've done a slow substitution, it won't be too shocking a change.

thanks for advice guys; even though he wakes at 6, by the time i've dragged myself downstairs, warmed bottle, gone back up, its 6.30 ish anyway, so he's usually back down by 7, and has another hours sleep. not sure what to do about the amount of milk i give him at that time, as when i've just give him some of it he refuses the rest with breakfast. on a couple of occasions when he had been up in the night, and slept till 7 ish, having his bottle at nearly 7.30 meant that he wouldn't eat any breakfast at all. one day, i got him to have a bit of breakfast it was nearly 9, by this time, and this really put him off eating a decent lunch. can't win can you. he has never been keen on breakfast so i have continued giving him his am milk feed whwn he wakes so tht at 8ish he should then want some breakfast. some mornings he has gone mad while the bottle is still in the jug, so he must be hungry when he wakes, so not sure if the water would work at the moment. he obviously could sleep for longer as as soon as he's back down after the bottle he drifts off again. he has sme mashed pottaoe, with various veg for his tea, and usually doesn't want pudding after it, so i feel he is going to bed full,; any more thoughts??
