8 month old sleep issues and hitting

I’m still trying to reduce the amount of help I give my LO to get to sleep for naps but the main issue is that for some naps, he has started hitting himself or us. Initially I thought it was teething as he was hitting the side of his head now think it’s frustration that he can’t get to sleep. I’ve just tried putting him down for a nap and it felt like I was being punched in the face and I’ve got a massive red mark on my face. He must be really hurting himself when he does this. Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do to help him?

My son is 8 months old and also did this. I spoke to the heslth visitor and she said its just a way they sooth themselves and could be a sign of teething. I use Ashton and parsons teething powder. I buy from asda but presume you csn buy from anywhere. Life saver. X
