Cannot put him down..

Last month my 12 month old had a bad bought of teething. It affected his sleep and I had to hold him just for him to settle at night. Think this caused the issue explained below.

I'm the father and at night I would tend to get up if he wakes. I would just pick him up, put him straight back in his cot and he would go to sleep. Which worked well as he soothed himself.

Now if I try to resettle him he cries, wants to be held. My wife is able to settle him like I could before.

Any tips to remove me being the crutch?
