7 month sleep regression

Hi,

I’m about 2 weeks into my 7month old’s sleep regression (last 3 nights waking up every hour or so - he falls asleep straight away in my arms then back in cot and then repeat!). before this he slept 7pm-6am (with one little wake up/needing soothing) pretty consistently for the month before.

At first it seemed to be trapped wind as he adjusted to solids but am now considering dropping daytime naps down to two in case this helps.

the problem is the maths! he gets pretty worn out after 2.5 hours awake so this would mean way too much nap time (total) in order to fit 2 naps into the 13 hours he is awake.

I’m trying to get my head around this - so hypothetically - 2.5 hours awake and 2 naps has to mean 5.5 hours napping????
awake 6am
asleep 8.30 until 11.30
awake 11.30 until 2.00
asleep 2.00 until 4.30
bed 7pm

I’m now pretty sleep deprived and wondering what i’m missing if the recommended awake periods/nap periods/number of naps don’t add up???

any ideas would be appreciated (including maths tuition!!)

I initially went by 2.5 hours awake time but found my daughter just wasn’t tired (especially for the last 2 naps). So I changed to the 2, 3, 4 schedule and dropped the third nap..so she goes down 2 hours after her morning wake up...then three hours after her first nap, then 4 hours until bedtime.

I should add it hasn’t improved night sleep but she now does two longer naps and it makes it a lot easier to plan the day if nothing else.

thanks @Bk8819 - the 2-3-4 is a clever solution! i will try that today.

This method helped us too. We needed that longer time for him to be awake to help him settle at night

Hope you have some luck with the new routine! We were getting somewhere but now 3 teeth have emerged in the last week so back to 20 - 40 minute wake ups 😱

Thanks both! the 2/3/4 worked really well yesterday! it didn’t improve his night waking but was a much better pattern for his energy levels over the day so a massive win. honestly thanks so much.

Ah brilliant glad it helped! Same with my daughter, no joy on the night waking yet but so much easier to put her down for naps and bedtime without the battle!
