Cot bed pillow

I feel stupid for asking this but I’m about to buy my 16 month old a cot bed pillow and unsure if I need a pillow protector aswell ? Shops that sell them Argos , dunelm etc don’t stock protectors so I’m wondering if people don’t use them and just wash the pillow ?

Hiya we've just brought our little boy his first cot bed pillow from dunelm...it was £8...didn't get a protector just a lovely jersey cover...he loves it xxx
