When is a routine not a routine?

My LO is 4 months today. I'd like to start formalising his routine a bit because I've heard it might help with daytime naps - nothing too rigid, just more predictable than the current free-for-all would be great. He's currently gravitating towards waking for the day around 8.30/9am, which suits me fine. But on 2 days out of 7, we have to wake up at 7.30am. Will it mess him around too much to have different wake times? Should we get up at half 7 every morning, just to accommodate those two days? Should I just try it and see what happens?
