Toddler sleeping terribly since going back to the childminders

My DS is 17 months old. I went back to work from maternity leave at the end of Feb and DS went to the childminders 1.5 days a week and was fine but then lockdown happened, so he’s been at home with me since April and been to my parents one day a week while I work, he enjoys it at my parents. He went back to the childminders 3 weeks ago, still just for a day and a half, and everything has gone tits up sleep wise since then.
He screams whenever I put him in his cot. He used to self settle to sleep and has done since he was about 6 months old, we never did any sleep training or anything like that, he has just always dozed off in the dark with his muslin as a comforter. He doesn’t fall to sleep any other way, he won’t be rocked or cuddled to sleep and doesn’t sleep in the car or pushchair. I have even tried co sleeping but he just gets out the bed and wanders off regardless of what time of night it is. If I take him to his room he screams and clings to me. I am trying to give him as much reassurance as possible and all the cuddles that he needs but if he won’t even co sleep then I just don’t know what to do. He’s waking in the night for me numerous times. He screams if I put him down for a nap. It’s not like he even wants the cuddles, he just wants to come back downstairs to play. He has never been clingy like this before. The first week at the childminders he napped there but the last two weeks he hasn’t and his clinginess and sleep issues are getting worse, as are the drop offs at the childminders.
This might all be 18 month sleep regression related too, but he didn’t really go through the previous regressions, we just had random bad patches here and there. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Will things get better on their own? I’m so tired

Also meant to add that as well as co sleeping weve also tried putting a travel cot in our room in case he just wants to be near us but he screams if he’s in that too
