In the last few weeks, my (almost) 6 month old has started settling to sleep by himself at the beginning of the night. However he is now waking every 2 - 3 hours wanting to be fed back to sleep. Prior to this he had finally been stretching to 4.5-7 hours.
I am trying to let him resettle himself or do the minimum to help him but inevitably end up feeding again. I’m trying to stop the feed before he falls asleep again but he usually cries again so I feed a bit more but then he’ll fall asleep during winding.
I thought the point of self settling at the start of the night was that babies would then sleep better overnight? Could he be genuinely hungry? Sometimes he wants a full feed but other times it’s just comfort.
I am still breastfeeding but starting to increase formula during the day. We’ll be starting solids this week but will be doing baby led weaning so it’ll be ages before he is eating enough to make a difference.
