I tried the no cry sleep solution and found it interesting, reassuring, some nice ideas, but it did not work for us. Instead at 9 months I did the gradual withdrawl / retreat method from 'teach your child to sleep' It took a long time with a few tears but at 15 months he sleeps for 11 hours consistently at night and between 1 and 1 1/2 hours in the day - pure bliss. I am glad I read the no cry sleep solution and also the 'askdrsears' stuff on the internet but we needed something a bit more regimented. I never left him to cry but did accept that he was going to cry when he was not bf to sleep.

I think that the No Cry Sleep Solution has some interesting ideas and is the only book that I have come across that tackles co-sleeping and sleep training in a realistic way. However, the problem is in the title. If you are trying to change the way your child falls asleep, I think it is natural for them to get a bit cross. If your primary aim is to avoid crying, it is difficult to make any changes.

The BW method on the other hand is to stay with your child, but enforce the idea that they are going to stay in their cot and go to sleep, even though that may not be their preferred choice at the moment. There is also loads of advice on sleep training on the BW web-site (they really have some dedicated members who have written great essays on their experiences). Having said that, I have also found 'teach your child to sleep' quite useful. Any more books you want info on? I have probably read them all
