Newborn sleep query

Ok so I have a newborn he's a week old. In the day he sleeps great and is bottle fed every 3 hours. I keep him in a Moses basket in the day in the living room so he gets used to noises/lights etc

At nighttime about 8 he again goes in the Moses basket in my room but this time lights out etc nice and quiet. All is well until his 2/3am feed and then when I go to put him down after that one he seems restless/awake. Hubby says he's fine just making noises and is awake but content which does sound fair enough but then sometimes I end up drifting back to sleep and feel bad my baby is lying there awake.

Anyone else had this? I wish he would be more awake in the day lol

It’s absolutely fine. Newborns have no understanding of day and night. If he’s not crying in the night when he is awake then I wouldn’t worry. As long as he is safe in his basket I would be getting all the sleep I could! In a couple of months he will start to be more awake in the day

Sounds exactly right. Babies start nocturnal because your movement puts them to sleep in the womb, then when you are still and asleep they wake up. As long as LO is not upset leave them to it.

Agree with above. It takes a while for them to get their day/night right so it's good to interact less at night as this will help them to learn. As long as he's feb & clean & safe, then being awake but content in Moses basket is great!

Ok thanks everyone. Also are baby hiccups normal? He has them often when he's awake in the night as above. He doesn't always bring up wins every feed either Altho I try my best..mostly he does but not always. Do all babies tend to bring up wind after all feed? Like should I be trying until he deffo burps each time

Try sitting him up for a feed, might help with the wind, but hiccups are totally normal and nothing to worry about. My DD hiccuped her way through my pregnancy and is still hiccupping now!
