Learning to fall to sleep alone

hi

My son is 21 months, never been a great sleeper, blamed this on breastfeeding which I stopped at 18 months , so 3 months ago. He still wakes several times through the night but goes back down once we go into comfort him. I take him up at 7.30 to start the bedtime routine which is usually one or 2 stories max then lights out and I sing him to sleep until he drops off. This can sometimes be quick sometimes takes 45 mins. Im pregnant again and I'm worrying how I'm going to sustain this when the next one arrives in 6 months as as I say hes also up in the night and early to rise on a monrning around 6. Do any of you think if I were to leave him to fall to sleep alone at the start of the night by not staying and singing etc then this will improve his sleep overall? Obviously he's not going to be happy with that to start with but if it were to learn him to fall asleep alone and again when he wakes in the night would this benefit his sleep all round or is this wishful thinking .

Do you have a partner? If so get them to take him while you put the other (newborn) to sleep.

Hi, I have 3 year old twins who still need me to fall asleep. My boy in particular get very upset if I even suggest leaving the room! I’ve also got a 5 week old baby and stressed throughout the whole of my pregnancy about the logistics of bedtime with 3 little ones! Truth be told it’s fine, i breastfeed the baby whilst hubby baths the twins then hubby winds and spends time with the baby whilst I get the twins to sleep. Everyone is happy! He won’t need you forever!
