17 month old getting ready to drop to no naps?

Hi all. DD is 17 months and has been on one nap a day for several months. We have recently been through the dreaded 18 month sleep regression which was horrendous, but she has now gone back to sleeping through and my sanity is restored Grin

However, even though she is now sleeping through again, we have noticed recently that if she has a nap in the day, she will not go to bed until 10/11pm.

For example, the other day she napped from 1-3:30pm, and then didn't go to bed until midnight! She just didn't seem tired until then. She then slept until 9am, didn't nap at all in the day and then slept 7-7 that night. Another night she napped 12-3 and then didn't go to bed until 11pm.

Does this mean she is getting ready to drop to no naps in the day?? 17 months seems quite young to stop napping. Or is her nap too long? It's usually around 2/2.5 hours. Should I try waking her up after an hour or so?

Thank you Smile

It's much more likely that you don't have a sleeptime routine and settling method well enough established. In which case baby isn't sleeping because of that, rather than because the sleep isn't needed.

Having enough sleep is a healthy habit that should be a lifelong endeavour. So getting into the habit of sleeping easily is good in the long term.

I was just about to post a very similar thread on here & then saw this! My nearly 17 month is exactly the same. He has been on 1 nap A day since he was 10 months but recently, his nap has been getting later & later in the day which means I’m lucky if he goes to bed at 9 Confused. The last couple of weeks I’ve really had to force the nap in the car/pram too as he won’t settle on his cot for it anymore.
If he doesn’t nap in the day, like yours, he will sleep 7-7 too which is fab. But getting him through the last couple of hrs of the day is very hard work. I’m guessing he is getting ready to drop naps but like you, I feel it does seem very young... I’ve just found out I’m pregnant with no2 too so somebody help me if this is the end of his naps...Shock
