Is this normal?

My 10 week old sleeps from 8pm until 3 or 4am, wakes for a feed then sleeps again until anywhere between 6 to 8am. That pattern is pretty regular.
But her day time naps are all over the place - no pattern and it's anything from 10 mins to 3 hours.
What worries me is that she's regularly awake for up to 3 hours at a time. On a average she gets 12/13 hours of sleep in 24 hours.
Everything I've read says at her age they shouldn't go longer than 1.5 hours and should be sleeping for 14-16 hours a day. But this isn't happening. So far I've been quite "baby-led" but now I'm wondering if I should be bringing in a sleep routine? Or is her sleep normal?

10 weeks is very young for a routine.
Personally I wouldn't change a thing of my LO was sleeping that well at night! You can put up with sporadic naps for such a good night sleep surely?

Sounds amazing to me! I’d just go with the flow if she doesn’t seem overtired. Very few babies follow the official advice to the letter, and many are stubbornly defiant about it even at a young age Wink

My DS always slept all night and was awake a lot in the day. All babies are different. Don't worry.

CrispsAddict · 17/08/2020 22:31

@Dontiknowit Yes, it's not a problem for me, it's more that I was worried that she wasn't getting enough sleep during the day.

I'd be more worried about only 12/13h sleep in 24h than I would awake time.

It's normal for babies who sleep well at night (sleeping through, or just one very brief wake) to be awake much more in the daytime. But 12/13h total suggest a going too far with awake time.

@peajotter She seems fine, sometimes tired but still taking ages to get to sleep

@Hedgehog44 Good to know! FTM anxiety I guess

There’s a free app called huckleberry that uses awake times set by their age to tell you the “sweet spots” to put them down for a nap :)

Wingingthis · 17/08/2020 22:41

Over tired babies can be harder to get to sleep! (Babies are weird)

CrispsAddict · 17/08/2020 22:45

@FATEdestiny Just checked the app and over the past 2 weeks it's been 13hrs 48mins and 13hrs 53min on average so it's almost 14 hours I suppose. I've just worked out it needs the full week's data to be put in before working out an accurate average.
