Day time sleep...

Hello,
I have a 2mo who basically doesn't sleep in the day. Well she does, but hardly anything and just ends up really grouchy. I've tried all sorts of things thinking she doesn't like sleeping in certain things/places in the day but then I don't want to be confusing her too much either... She wakes around 6:30-7:30 and I try to get her to have a nap roughly 1.5hrs after this because to be fair, she will be all heavy eyed by this point too and visibly needs a nap but I'll put her down and it'll last about 20 mins if that. Then shes awake and smiley but dis very short lived until she realises she's still tired and gets grumpy but won't nap!

Stuck between a rock and a hard place to be honest. Any tips would be great, or do I just have one of those babies who doesn't sleep? At night she sleeps great though...

It's not unusual for naps to be short at this stage. The key to helping baby sleep is to reduce the awake time between naps. Then by baby not being overtired, she can begin to learn to link sleep cycles so nap longer.

As a general approximation, awake time wants to be double nap length, plus or minus 15 minutes:

  • 20 min naps means awake time of 40 mins (in the range of 25-55min) until next naptime
  • 30 min naps means awake time of 60 mins (in the range of 45min - 1h15) until next naptime
  • 45 min naps means awake time of 90 mins (in the range of 1h15-1h45) until next naptime

and so on
