How do you get your baby on a consistent nap routine?

Hi, my DS is 6 and a half months old and I would love to be able to to get him on a consistent nap routine/schedule. He doesn’t have a set bed time yet as some days he has a 2 nap and others 3 depending on awake times and how much sleep he has previously had (he can sleep anywhere from 30mins-2hours) I try not to have him asleep later than 8pm. I usually aim to be asleep any time between 6.30- 7.30 but that doesn’t always happen and some days he takes longer to sleep than others. We use huckleberry to gauge awake times. We also have a problem of him getting up too early. We live in a city and seagulls can wake him any time from 4.30-6.30 am :-( If it’s earlier than 6 I try to give him a snooze feed so he can sleep later. I never let him sleep later than 7am if this happens. Usually though his morning wake time is around 5-5.30 :-( I’m aware he isn’t getting enough night time sleep for his age :-( any help would be greatly appreciated.

A nap routine usually develops naturally as nap lengths lengthen and become consistent.

If you want it earlier, I would start waking baby up from naps at a set time, in order to engineer the timing of the next nap. For example 9am nap, wake baby at 10am. Then 12pm nap, wake at 2pm. 4pm nap, wake at 5pm. On days with a really early wake up, put down for first nap earlier but continue to use the same wake up time (10am) so that the rest of the days naps are longer.
