How much sleep is TOO much? 3 weeks old.

Hello, I have a 2 week and 5 day old baby boy. He's gaining weight well (now at least; he didn't gain weight between days 5 and 10 but has been piling it on since then) and doing decent nappies. But he sleeps almost ALL the time! He does wake for feeds and when we try to.cjanhe his nappy. And he has a couple of alert periods at night and one or two during the day when he wakes up.properly and has s good look round. But otherwise he's just snoozing all day long! Is this normal/okay at this age?? Admittedly my judgement is clouded by my experience with my first child who literally stopped napping when he was 8 days old and I had to go on endless pram.walks all day every day in desperation to get him to fall asleep... that wasn't very standard either... but this seems to be totally the opposite end of the spectrum! On one hand I feel I should be enjoying this time and making the most of it - I know it won't last! - but on the other hand I'm a little discovered by how snoozy he is! Oh he did have a rough of jaundice too but that's cleared up.

Sounds totally normal for a newborn! Basically sleep, feed/nappy/little play, back to sleep!

I found the awake-times chart really helpful for the first year

Ooh thanks! I like that chart! I think I'm just worried because it's the total opposite of my experience with my first born. He was a weird newborn though 😂

My son was 3 weeks early literally all he did was eat and sleep with maybe 2 or 3 small alert periods a day when he was about 3 weeks now he's 10 weeks and alot more alert just needed a bit more sleep than others to catch up I think but i worried the same as you as long as they are alert sometimes and eating , enough wet diapers etc my doc said it was fine

Oh good! Mine was one week early. He was awake for a bit earlier though which was reassuring. I should just enjoy it while it lasts I guess! Thank you :)
