Disaster transition from 2 - 1 naps since started Daycare

My DS is 13 months and has only started daycare recently due to the COVID 19 crisis.
He was a champion sleeper. 2 naps a day and 11 hours at night. We’d put him down in his crib, leave the room, very happy boy and that was it. But since he’s started daycare, 3 weeks now, he won’t have his morning nap. It started that he wouldn’t nap for them and now he won’t nap in the morning for us either.
So we decided to move him to a one nap schedule, even though I think it’s too early for him, but what can we do, he just sits in his cot and won’t lie down.
The day nap is going ok, sometimes 2 -3 hours but usually 1.5 hours and an earlier bedtime but now he is waking at night and I have to lie beside his cot for up to 3 hours a night as he cries every 5 min in that time.
So it’s very tiring now especially as I’m in work.

Has anyone any experience of this, I wish we could have waited but we’ve been forced into the change and I worry for him that he’s too tired, and this will go on for a long time possibly damaging his sleep long term.

Thanks everyone

It’s really tough but it’s not going to damage his sleep long term, every child goes through a nap transition sometimes it’s too early and sometimes it’s just right for the child. What do you do when he wakes? Does he instantly cry? We went through something similar and quickly realised us going in was making her worse. We would go in if she was really upset and just leave as soon as she calmed down

Thanks SS1987
Yeah we would go in right away and lie down on the floor beside him. If that was short then it wouldn’t really be a problem but it’s up to 3 hours of lying beside him as he cries on and off, no point leaving the room till he’s in a deep sleep as he just starts again.
Maybe we’ll try giving him 5 min to see if he stops by himself. Probably us being in there is keeping him awake.
Just wish he could get his nap during the day properly x

Giving this a bump as we're going through something similar. DD is 11mo + 6 days. We're on holidays with my sister who has a baby on 1 nap schedule and being here has (despite our efforts to keep our DD on 2 naps) completely messed up our schedule and forced our DD on a 1 nap schedule. Now.. in the middle of the night ... last night at just 3am (!!!!) she is up and won't go back to sleep!! It's driving me mad !!!! It's just been 2 days so it's early, but I don't know what to do. She has a lie in in the morning till 9am so it's now not early enough to go back to two naps. Advice please... anyone with 11 months olds?
