How to get daytime naps in cot

Hello

DS is 4.5 months and has spent the past 5 or so weeks napping on me. It started as only doing one sleep cycle when I put him down in crib/cot for nap and then slowly he would just cry the moment I put him down even if I waited for him to be floppy.

I now would like to help encourage him sleep in his cot, even for only one nap a day.

Any tips? I'm desperate to get on and do things during a day so keen to put him down. I let him sleep on me as it was path of least resistance and it seemed better than letting him be tired.

Please help!

Or even, how did you know/decide to start doing naps in the cot once they had been napping on you? I feel like if I don't try then he'll never do it but there might be some signs he is ready for it

DD had all her naps on me or DP til she was about 1, and started napping in the cot just fine. She's fed or cuddled to sleep. We started by putting her down next to us on the bed, then realised she wasn't bothered and went for it with the cot. Curtains closed, sleeping bag, story, conk her out, plonk her in.

In retrospect she probably could have been put down for naps sooner, but it's nice having a snoozing baby on you and I don't think you get the opportunity after your first child, as true next baby has to play second fiddle to a toddler's needs.

Oh my god I could have wrote this. My baby has slept on me since birth first naps as he cannot get passed his first sleep cycle. It's a nightmare. He is 17 weeks old. In his cot he will wake up bang on 30 mins. On me he sleeps much better. Its sooooo hard x

My LO is coming up to 6 months.

He would have every nap on me. But I slowly started putting him in crib. I would sit at side with my hand patting his chest on and off to help settle him. Took a couple of weeks to get him settled.
He goes to sleep at night by himself which helps as it's easier to sort night sleep out as the drive for sleep is stronger

He still sometimes has naps on me, as sometimes he won't settle. (As he started teething at 5 months)

Up until 5.5 months he was on 30-45 min naps (unless on me) which is normal for babies, as around 6 -7 months they start learn to go through sleep cycles.

He still does some 30-45 mins naps but he has learn to do some 1h15-1h30 too.

The huckleberry app has a setting for sweet spot which helps not putting baby to nap over tired or under tired that really helped as he sleep clues weren't always that obvious.
