DS asleep on side .....

DS is almost 7 months. He is EBF but weaning obv.
He normally bed shares with me - following safe co-sleeping advice - on his back. It makes the BF so much easier which still happens multiple times a night.

Tonight it’s so hot (and DP has been on at me to put him in his own bed for a while) I decided to try him I’m his crib which is currently next to my bed. Put him down on his back and before long he’s rolled onto his side.
He can roll over both ways.
If I move him onto his back ive no doubt it’ll wake him and I’ll spend forever settling him again ( if he even goes back to his own bed at all) and of I do put him back in he’ll potentially just move himself to his side again.

Would you move him to his back or leave him?
Is it safe?

I'd leave him. If he can roll over both ways then let him find his own sleeping position

ShyTown · 24/06/2020 20:46

Leave him. It’s perfectly safe if he was put down on his back and rolled himself. You also can’t stop them doing it if you ever plan to sleep yourself!

If they can roll
Independently then it’s fine to let them chose sleeping positions just make sure your mattress is a fimnsurface no extra padding

You're fine op, he can roll himself around. It sounds safe to me unless he has some other health concerns in the mix.

The thing to avoid is putting a baby who is too small/weak to roll himself over, onto his side/front.

After 2 weeks of me waking ds rolling him back over I phoned and asked the health visitor at around the same age. She told me if he could roll back from front to back then he should be fine but just to always put him into the cot on his back. If he rolled over then leave him be. Could you phone hv to check what they think?

As PP said, it's fine. I asked the HV this same question as I would put DS down at about 5-6 months and he'd be straight onto his tummy. She said as long as he can roll both ways and got himself into that position, nothing to worry about.

Sorry should have said put him down on his back, but he was having none of it.

My son started sleeping on his side or front from about 5 months, I used to put him back on his back but he always rolled over again. He could roll him self back so I stopped moving him. He's now 8 months and always sleeps on his side or on his front with his bum in the air 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's fine OP, he can roll now. Enjoy a bit of space in this heat Smile
