My 9 month old has recently started waking up every hour al night. But not for milk! He's waking up constantly banging his head on his cot, he throws himself about in his cot all night. Anyone have any advice please?

Is he in a crib or a full sized cot?

Has he recently learnt a skill (rolling, crawling etc)?

This will almost certainly be linked to learning to crawl, using sleep time to practice his new-found skill of moving around.

Banging into the cot sides while rolling around is quite normal, and most children just get used to it. Indeed many actively prefer to sleep with their face right up against the cot bars, for some reason.

Learning to still his body for sleeping is something he may need to learn, rather than it coming instinctively. So it would be helpful for him if you still his body for him. This might involve putting your hand across his thighs to still his legs. Or holding his hands in one of your hands to still his flaying arms. Other times, just laying your hand across his chest may be enough to send that message to still and relax his body.
