Next to me crib vs big cot

Hi, I need some advice if possible regarding sleeping arrangements.
I currently have a 5 week old little boy who is sleeping in a next to me crib in our room.
We also have his big cot in our room for when hes past 6 months. This is because we only own a 1 bedroom house and until we can move next year he will be in with us.

The difficulty were facing is the next to me crib is so cramped its getting frustrating to get past day and night. I'm not fully recovered and struggle to get past. My other half was on that side for the last month but has now gone back to work.

Question is can I just put him in his big cot now? As it's still in the same room and currently next to the next to me cot so not too far from me.

If he'll go in the big cot it's perfectly ok to put him in it. Will you be able to manage getting him in and out of it, if you aren't completely recovered?

The other option is that it's often possible to take one side off the cot and bolt it to your bed - effectively using it to replace the Next to Me, which might free up some space?

I will try him in it to see how he gets on if not will keep the next to me.
Getting him in and out of the big cot will be easier than the next to me as it's high up. It's the bending down into the next to me which is a nightmare.

The cot is massive so taking a side off and putting it on.my bed wouldnt nessecciarly work.

Thanks for the input :)

Assuming your cot is flatpack (and 90-odd percent of cots are) you can take one side off. It's called a sidecar cot, just wedge it up next to your bed. See here:

I’m a bit a confused - if you’re in your bed you shouldn’t be leaning down to reach into the next to me, it should be more or less level with your bed?
