I feel so blue

I think a combination of lockdown and loneliness and tiredness.

I have become obsessed with my little girl's sleep. She was sleeping through (more or less) but in the last 2 weeks has started waking up 3 times a night and staying awake for a long time. Plus her reliable 2 hour midday nap is now reliably 38 minutes long.

I feel like I'm doing everything wrong as most of my friends' babies seem to be sleeping better but I honestly don't know what to change.

Anyway, sorry I'm not sure what I'm asking. Just struggling the last few weeks.

Me too, I crave routine and even purchased a sleep programme app so I could follow aged appropriate nap times etc. I ended up getting myself so stressed when the times of naps and feedings wouldn't work and it was a horrible time (my poor husband got the brunt) and with the lock down, first time mum etc I was very tired and felt useless.

However I posted on here and someone mentioned the huckleberry app and I have to say it has helped me a lot and realise that not all babies follow the same routine.

How old is your LO?

She's 7 months. She really is so great. I just find it so frustrating going backwards. Thank you for the recommendation x

Is she having two naps a day?

I’d say at 7 months I’d expect a nap about 2 to 2.5 hours after wake up, and then another nap about 3 hours after that. As for duration... my 11 month old has flitted between 45 minute naps and 1.5 hour naps for the last few months.

Just sounds like a bit of sleep regression? Any new skills, crawling perhaps?

My 11 month old naps very well but wakes at least twice a night, he’s never slept through. Sounds like you’re doing well with the sleep so far, don’t be so hard on yourself.

Remember that everything is a phase at this age and it will all have changed in a few weeks.

@Betty98 thank you so much. I think I just need a reality check.

She naps about 2.5 hours after waking up for between 30-45 mins, then 3 hours later for 38 mins (although was 90) and now has a third nap between 4-4.30 and bedtime at 7. She was on 2 naps when she was doing a biggie at lunch but she wakes up knackered from her midday nap.

She has just started rolling onto her front, we've stepped up weaning a bit, just generally seems more grown up suddenly so I guess it could be a regression x

I read somewhere that if you know they’re sleeping for 38 minutes and you want them to sleep longer, to go in at 37 in readiness to settle them. Put a dummy back in or whatnot. We don’t use a dummy but we’ll often put Ollie the Owl on lullaby mode and he has a comforter (one of those flat cuddly toys) and I’d recommend both. Don’t know if that’s something you could consider?

I think the reality is mums always have something to worry about and this is your current one... but sounds like she’s doing OK. As I say, probably just a phase!
