Soothing one year old without breastfeeding

DS is 12 months. I'd like to stop breastfeeding soon. We've cut down in the day quite a bit, but at night I feed him as it's the easiest way to soothe him and get him back to sleep.

What alternatives are there at night? Just a cuddle? A cup of cows milk? I don't really want to start with bottles at this age.

I wouldn't replace night breastfeeds because the point of stopping feeding to sleep is to stop all milk at night. It's necessary for good teeth care, baby shouldn't have anything but water after brushing teeth at bedtime. It's also better sleep habits to completely seperate feeding and sleeping.

The alternates would be cuddling, rocking, cosleeping, patting, shushing, stroking... whatever works.

I stopped BF in the night when my son was about 13months, it wasn’t planned - he didn’t wake for milk for a few nights and then I decided that was it. We then had a few night of him waking and I’d cuddle him in the spare room and put him back down, sometimes using his Henry hedgehog white noise. Since then he had slept almost 12/13 hours. Last few nights he’s woken but I think he is teething..I haven’t had to get him out of his cot tho and comforted him by dummy, back rub or hedgehog!!
