Moving the cot down = unsettled sleep

We have to move the cot right down, now that our almost 9 month old is standing in his cot. Worried it's going to unsettle him and be hard for us all, because we do a lot of bending over the side (rubbing his back, holding his hand, hair stroking, shhing gently close to his face etc) to soothe him as he's still not consistent in getting himself to sleep and I'm just not going to be able to do that when he's so far down in the cot (I'm 5"3' so can't reach and my OH is 6"3' so will break his back bending down that far!). We can't get our arm through the bars to comfortably reach him from the side either and the side doesn't lower. Any ideas what on earth we can do? (I am kinda hoping that moving him right down will suddenly be the magic move that means he doesn't need any of the above but that's just wishful thinking!)

I'm 5'3" and manage. My 5ft friend used to climb up the outside and sort of dangle herself in, cirque du soleil style, legs braced.

I wish I could say that moving the cot down was a magic move but the truth is that much more patting and shushing has had to happen to offset the constant standing. My OH is the same height and he can crouch and reach into the cot with his long arms 😂

@Burritofan that's good to know. Dreading it! I'll get stretching so I can pull off some nifty moves if need be Wink

@melamine ugh! I may just have to have a new tactic where I sit by the cot and pat the side of the mattress while sshing. Or leave it all up to DH Smile

Could you get a very low cot bed or just put the cot mattress on the floor?
