How long to let baby lay in cot? Help!

Just that. DS is 4 months.

My son tends to yawn and start cuddling his teddy and stroking it against his face, so I know he's tired. I put him down in his cot with the mobile on and he can lay there for quite a while with his eyes open!
He's not upset, he's just enjoying his dummy and looking at the mobile. Occasionally he rolls his head from side to side which he does when he is sleepy.

But I feel bad. I feel like he's bored or I'm not stimulating him enough or I should take him out if he isn't sleeping straight away. He's been in there for about 15 minutes and he isn't asleep.

He's a very good baby but I'm an anxious first time mum.

If he was bored, he would cry. So just chill. Babies are easily over-stimulated, and it's good for him to relax on his own. Time for a cup of tea.

He's absolutely fine. Babies don't need to be stimulated and engaged with all the time, some quiet and calm time is great for them too. He sounds perfectly content, and I'm sure would let you know if he wasn't! Enjoy the peace! 😊

Gosh how lovely, he sounds very contented and secure, you must have made him feel comfortable. Enjoy your baby, but it’s normal to feel anxious.

Sounds amazing, 15 minutes is not a long time to chill out by yourself if you're not unhappy about it!

Thanks everyone.

I can be rather "milestone-focused" at the moment. I'm always wondering if I'm doing enough to help him develop. Sometimes I need people to tell me to chill out!

I'll count myself lucky he's such a chilled boy. Smile

That sounds amazing, he's probably going to be great at self soothing.
