7 week old wide awake after 3am feed

As in the title our lovely 7 week old seems to think 4.30 is get up time.

We use a loose routine with him of feeds 3 hourly in day and then bath, 7pm feed and bedtime /sleep after that. He’s been getting better and better at sleeping after his 7pm feed. We then wake him at 10 feed, nappy and resettle, the final night feed we let him choose the time and he usually wakes around 3am.

At this time if I keep lights very low he’s usually too sleepy to feed. I know some people manage dream feeds but he simply doesn’t latch on breast or swallow from bottle when that asleep. And if he doesn’t feed he wakes after an hour or so as he’s hungry.

If I turn the night light on and use more effective wake up method - changing nappy, stripping off. He then seems to be wide awake when I put him down. Initially he chirps and seems settled just alert but it then deteriorates into crying if I don’t intervene after a few min. I burp and check nappy and offer dummy and cuddles but still everytime I put him down it’s the same.

If I cuddle for very long in the dark I notice I get very sleepy and am terrified of falling to sleep with him in my arms so do need to put him down.

Shushing etc don’t work when he’s so alert

Help!

What happens if you don’t wake him at 10pm?
Would he maybe sleep another hour or two and wake on his own for a feed? He might then wake an hour or so later on the middle of the night.
At such a young age though they change their sleep habits and routine so quickly. You might find in a few weeks he’s totally different.

Thank you for the reply.. Good point although I’m scared to change that part of the routine as he’s doing so well at sleeping then. I will try

This morning he too 3 hours from 2-5 to feed (40 min) then to settle and sleep.
