How much sleep does your 2, 3 or 4 year old get?

My children definitely do not get enough sleep. They are 2 and 3, (almost 3 & 4). For their age it’s recommended they get between 11 - 14 hours sleep, which they do not!! I’m wondering how much other children their age actually do sleep?

My DS is nearly 4 and probably has about 11 hours a night, he's always had the lower end of average in amount of sleep.

Mine are 3 and 4 (nearly 5) and get just under 12 hours generally. Sometimes a bit less but then they're hideous.

My 2 year old averages about 10.5 hours at night and occasionally has a nap during the day. Length of nap depends on what time he falls asleep as don't let him go past a certain time.

DD now 6 has always needed a bit more sleep and would do 12 hours a night at that age and still averages about 11 hours now.

My 3 year old doesn’t get enough. I’m he is put to bed at 7pm but doesn’t fall asleep until 9pm and then is up at 6am.

My 2 year old sleeps 7-6 on average but it awake probably three times during the night - he comes in with us at some point and is breast fed. He naps most days but usually 30 mins and he's done. Sometimes no nap, sometimes up to 90 mins.

My 4 year old sleeps 7-7 solid. He definitely wakes up before 7 but we've managed to train him with the gro-clock not to come in before 7. No naps unless on a long car journey or he's poorly.

My 2 year old has 11 hours sleep with a 1 hour nap during the day. They are showing signs of dropping the nap though.

My 3yo has 11-12 hours per night (7pm-6am Or 7pm-7am usually).

blackteaplease · 17/05/2020 07:29

Ds age 4 averages about 10 hours.

I’m definitely gunna have to be abit strict with nighttime routines I think and get them asleep earlier. What sort of times are your children going to sleep?

My 2 and 3 year old (nearly 3 and 4) go to to bed between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. They generally wake around 6ish so get an average of 11 hours sleep.
Up till recently, the 2 year old had been napping a couple of hours in the afternoon but that's becoming less and less frequent (maybe twice a week) and only for an hour and a half.

babychange12 · 17/05/2020 08:09

My 3 year old has a 2-3 hour nap during the day but then falls asleep at 10pm and gets up about 7-8am

I would love it if he just has a long sleep at night but he gets so ratty if he doesn't have a nap so hey ho

unkindnessofravens · 17/05/2020 13:18

My 2 year old goes down at 7, wakes up anywhere between 6-7 and naps from 1:30ish to 2:30 most days.

Gillian1980 · 17/05/2020 22:09

My 4 year old pre-lockdown was having 11 hours and that is definitely what she needs.

Unfortunately she’s really unsettled and is currently getting anything from 4 to 8 hours of broken sleep. I’ve been trying to get her to nap but it’s all a bit hopeless.

DelurkingAJ · 17/05/2020 22:12

DS2 is just 4 and goes to bed at 8. Up about 6:30. If he’s had a nap he sits up and plays forever...and then is ratty the next day.

He does not, however, sleep through more than half the time. Grrrrr...

Magpiefeather · 17/05/2020 22:24

Dd almost 3 gets 10.5 hours a night (in bed by 7 asleep by 7.30) and still needs an hour’s nap in the middle of the day otherwise she is a nightmare by dinner time!

DonnaDarko · 17/05/2020 22:29

Nearly 4 year old goes to bed between 8 and 9 at the moment, is usually up by 8am

He's been consistent doing 11-12 hours a night since around 3. Before that, he was doing maybe 9 hours but having a nap at nursery. We asked them to drop it as we were then struggling to get him into bed before 9.
