My 2 year had a nightmare and is now terrified to go to sleep

A couple of nights ago my (newly) 2 year old had what I think was a nightmare and came into me in the night really crying. She then came into our bed where she fell back to sleep and then we transferred her back to her bed. The next night she was historically crying when we put her to bed(completely fine before) but as soon as she gets into her bed she's terrified. In the end she fell asleep in my arms being cuddled and I managed to lay her into her bed without her waking.
I just don't know what is the best way to deal with this she has always been an amazing sleeper and loved going to bed(often gets me to take her to bed) so this is very out of character. I don't want to develop bad habits by letting her come into my bed but also don't want her to be in distress.
If anyone has dealt with this in children this young can you please share what helps?TIA
