Just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with my 12 year old daughter, she's sleeping atleast 16hours a day and gone really pale, she do have t1d but she's normally in range so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I've taken her to the drs and she had bloods done yesterday to check if she's anemic but is there anything else it could be if her bloods
Come back fine?

How is she in general? Tiredness and generally being feeling a bit weak and wobbly can often be a sign of depression. It might be that at 12 she's not entirely able to express what she's feeling.

My 12 year son is like this, he sleeps so much he wasn’t even in school before lockdown, he was sent home because he would fall asleep in class. With him it’s his way of saying ‘the world is too much for me’. He is going to be having blood tests after lockdown to rule out a physical cause, but his CAMHS doctor thinks he could be depressed.

@SomeoneElseEntirelyNow @Vanadis Thankyou soo much for your replies. She did only get diagnosed with diabetes last August so I'm thinking it could be because of depression as she's soo fed up with it she hates everything about it, if her bloods are fine I will ring her nurses and maybe once lockdown is over she can see her physcoligist, it is just the tiredness and her being really pale she doesn't have any other symptoms so I think its definitely a possibility that it could be depression maybe.

Hypothyroidism is another autoimmune disease and can be associated with type 1 diabetes. It would be worth asking the GP for their opinion and a blood test to look at thyroid hormone levels.

gassylady · 15/05/2020 18:24

Sorry should have said it can lead to extreme tiredness as well as slow heart rate and various other effects

Spidey66 · 15/05/2020 18:28

Was she like this pre-lockdown? She may be feeling she's got nothing to get up for.

TwilightPeace · 15/05/2020 18:30

Get her vitamin D level checked, it could be quite low.

lcsj · 15/05/2020 18:40

@gassylady I forgot about that one when I was at the drs I have an underactive thyroid myself and thought it might be that,

@Spidey66 no she was fine before lockdown so it could be that.

@TwilightPeace I will Thankyou I'll ring the drs next week and ask if she can have more bloods done

I've had chronic fatigue since I was young and often sleep for long periods like this. I was diagnosed as an adult with hypermobile ehlers danlos syndrome. I know from trying to get my diagnosis that a lot of chronic conditions can cause fatigue, as well as vitamin deficiencies etc. And of course depression.
