7 Month Old Sleep Help!

Hi,

So we've been sleep training our 7 month old for a couple of weeks now. Its been going mainly okay, naps he goes down for fairly well, he whines ever so slightly for less than 5 mins and then he's asleep.

Night time sleep is completely different. He HATES bedtime, it's like he knows its coming. We have a consistent routine. Tea, bath, dried, moisturise, dressed, sleeping bag, breastfeed, story, lullaby and into cot.

But from getting out of the bath onward, he's just hysterical the whole time until he gets boob. Most nights I can't even finish the first page of the story because he's just screaming and trying to fidget away.

I feel like I've tried everything (I will list below)

  • boob before bath
  • boob straight after bath whilst he's still in towel
  • nappy on first, then boob
  • nappy, boob, vest, boob, sleepsuit, boob, sleeping bag, boob
  • routine in our bedroom
  • routine in his bedroom
  • changing him in cot
  • changing him on brothers bed
  • changing him on our bed

Nothing works :( I just don't understand. There's nothing wrong with him, he's fed, cleaned, cuddled, burped, massaged, I just don't know what else to do.

I want bedtime to be relaxing for him so he settles down to sleep better but he just cries non stop.

Any advice please?

and apologies for the over usage of the word 'boob' Grin

Once he’s down does he sleep through / sleep ok?

My DS always hated the transition between bath and bed, since birth really. When he was really little he’d be hysterical until he was put down in his cot. We also tried everything, including not bothering with the bath etc, and nothing made a difference. We never had a relaxing bedtime routine, it was always just get it done as quickly as possible. But he’s always been like this.

He’s better now he’s 1 and he’ll sit for a story and a cuddle after the bath, but I still don’t think he’s particularly bothered about it. It’s as if once he’s out of the bath he literally just wants to get straight into bed. He just hates a fuss.

On the flip side of all of this is that as soon as he was put in his cot he rolls over and goes straight to sleep and sleeps all night, so I don’t worry myself about it.
