How to get toddler to sleep under the covers

DD is almost two and had been sleeping through fairly consistently until we started potty training. She's done well, but seems to have night trained herself too and now doesn't pee while asleep, so wakes me in the early hours to help her go to the potty. She sleeps in a big 2.5 tog sleepsuit thing that she's got no hope of getting out of herself and the whole palaver seems to fully wake her. I want to give her some two-piece pyjamas that she can take down herself to use the potty, but she won't sleep under the covers and gets cold with just pyjamas on (even the fleecy ones), then wakes in the night and wants to get into our bed. Any suggestions on how we can get her used to sleeping under the covers?

Just to clarify, she doesn't sleep under the covers in our bed either, just on the sheet near my pillow.

I thought they couldnt use a duvet for safety reasons until older?

FourPlasticRings · 14/05/2020 11:34

She's only got a blanket.

What about a grow bed set?

TiggeryBear · 14/05/2020 11:36

My nearly 2 year old has a toddler duvet but I still have to get up most nights to move him back underneath it as he's whimpering that he's cold 🙄 I mean he says it so cutely but I don't like being woken up.

My 2 had a duvet and has since about 16 months, during the night it does tend to get kicked off but she doesn't seem bothered by it thankfully

At that age- no chance. My nearly 3 year old still can’t get her covers back on her so if she rolls away from them I’m woken to go in and put the toddler duvet back on her.

Have you seen this? gro.co.uk/product/gro-to-bed/

My only concern would be if they moved under the covers and couldn't get themselves back out - though I suppose loads of toddlers sleep with their covers over their heads...

Duvet is ok from 1 year. Duvet clips?

Duvets are fine for over a year old- we waited until 18 months but that was more to do with the time of year and the cellular blanket being sufficient.
I would not be buying the clips, is it annoying getting up a couple of nights a wk to throw the covers back over the little ones- definitely. But I wouldn’t restrict any of their movement by clipping covers over them.

I had a gro-bed set for DS2. It worked really well.
