Hi everyone

I have a 7 week old DS who only likes to nap once a day, mainly after his lunchtime bottle for 3ish hours.

Do you think i should try and get him to have a couple of naps a day instead of just 1 long one? He is a very content baby and settles very well at night with only waking up 1 to 2 times for a feed. Today he woke up at 6.45am but didnt go to sleep until 1pm for 3 hours, i did try to get him to have a nap at 10am but he just layed there for 45mins and didnt actually sleep.

Any advice will be greatly appriciated! :)

If he's content, feeding well, gaining weight and if you are happy with this routine then I wouldn't worry.

I had to 'teach' DD to nap. She was quite resistant to napping but she crossed the line the day that she stayed awake from 9am until 9pm at around 10 weeks old. I was horrified! And she was beside herself by about 5pm. My GP advised establishing a routine of 3 naps a day and to do so by putting her in her cot at exactly the same time ten days running and that it would form a habit even if at first she didn't sleep. I was highly sceptical but it worked!

I think you need to give him more naps. Tiny babies usually can't get themselves to sleep - you need to hold, rock, feed, cuddle them.

I wouldn't let a baby go more than 2 hours awake at that age.
