Transitioning 6 month old to crib

Hi, I need to transition my 6 month old baby boy from co-sleeping to his own room. Any tips on how to start/do this successfully without allowing him to cry it out?

I have started putting him in his cot for every nap (he used to only contact nap) so this is one big milestone. Should I use the cot for the bedtime now or should I start using the next to me first? Thankyou in advance

Can't help as we did that much, much later than 6 months. But we decorated the room and tried to spend more and more time in there before the big move so that they could get used to it. The first days were hard, there was waking up and crying in the middle of the night, but after 5 days DD got used to it.
