Rolling in sleep - help!

My little one is learning to roll (she's 6 months), and so far isn't very confident doing so. Tonight I had to pick her up and resettle her as she had rolled onto her front from her back in her cot and didn't know how to get back. (Typically she's better at rolling from back to front and not the other way).

Now I'm really worried about her sleeping safely!

Also I put her down on her back and she always rolls on to her side to sleep... I keep putting her back but it ends in me waking her up by accidentally rolling her back.

Argh sorry for long post, just want to know how long it was when your little ones became confident at rolling and you stopped worrying about sleeping on their back!

It’s okay if she goes on to her side as long as you originally put her down on her back. Less safe is rolling onto the front, in that case you should reset her. Is she still in your room and do you have a monitor like an owlet smart sock or nanit nappy clip?

Guidance is they can be left in whatever position as long as they can get out of it. Mine have been rolling back to front and front to back from 4 months so have slept on their front from that age if they've wanted. Once they've done it once they normally get good pretty quickly so I'm sure you won't be having to intervene for too much longer. If it's causing an issue DD3 sleeps in a sleeping bag for night time sleep and she doesn't show any interest in rolling whilst in it.

@LouiseTrees - We have a video monitor that also does audio.

She's in our room overnight in her next to me cot (which she is rapidly outgrowing) and is in her cot in her own room for naps and the first part of the evening (7pm - 10/11pm, whenever we go to bed). We were hoping to transition her to her own room but the rolling has got me really worried!

Orla has a good point on sleeping bags. My little one would always roll onto her front in her big cot without one on but only rolls onto her side at night In her next to me with one on (also quickly outgrowing) so I don’t need to move her from her side.

This is an awkward ohase when they roll one way but not tge other. Practice rolling in the day.

My DS since being able to roll has been a front sleeper, no amount of turning him over could change it.
