9 week old, long day naps but frequent night waking

Hello

Our 9 week old seems to have a bit of a reverse cycling going, has been since about 5 weeks.

He will go 3.5/4 hours between feeds during the day and he sleeps between feeds but at night he does one longish stretch of 2.5/3 hours and after that he will wake up every hour to hour and a half.

Previously, I would give him one breast, change him so he would wake and then the other breast and he would go back off for 3ish hours but now he will fall asleep before the second boob and be impossible to wake up. So I put him down in his cot and he is just thrashing around half asleep for 45mins/hour during which time I keep picking him up to quieten him and he will settle on me. Until he decides to wake up, usually an hour after the first boob for the second one. He is having some formula before bed too.

He goes down quite well for his first sleep of the night, it's just the ones after that.

At a loss now, not sure if he wants food or comfort in the night and don't know what else to do.
