Hi 👋
My son is 6.5 months old and is really bad at night. The last two to three weeks have been the worst. At his best he would wake twice a night to feed (breastfeed) and go straight back to sleep.
In the day generally now he settles fairly well with the occasional day of crying for a long time. He when this started he learned how to roll to his stomach then he was getting stuck and crying, so was up very often in the night and struggling to get to sleep in the first place. Then after 2 weeks he started to like to sleep on his stomach and had a day or two of good sleep like that..I thought I'd cracked it.
Now he's learnt to roll back and is trying to sit up himself aswell, so he gets annoyed trying to practice this in his cot even though we spend all day practically practicing these skills.
My real problem is bedtime. He has this new thing of crying and screaming for over an hour hysterically rolling and thrashing about in his crib.
I don't know if it's an awake time issue as he settles for the other sleeps generally well?
I feed him a expressed bottle of breastmilk (4-5oz) half hour before I put him down and he has a bedtime routine including bath , massage, PJ's, sleepsack, read a quick story cuddle and into bed.
He has a dummy but is able to find this and puts it in himself.
Day before yesterday his last nap finished at 430pm, (30 min) he didn't fall asleep until 8.20pm despite me putting him down at 715pm.
Yesterday his last nap finished at 410pm, fell asleep at 735pm then woke every 1-2 hours overnight loudly crying and the only thing that calms him enough to sleep when hes like that is breastfeeding! He was up 6+ times last night crying and I fed him 4 times.
He doesn't need it he's on 3 meals a day and breastfeeds about 4-6 times a day.
He just seems so unsettled and figity.
Dh said to try a longer awake time (3-3.5hrs before bed? )
I was up for an hour in the night last night rocking him as every time I put him down he cried hysterically.
I've tried alot of the sleep training methods but nothing seems to consistently work for him.
I do think some teeth are about to pop through I can see 2 white lines under the gums but they've been like that for about a week.
Any thoughts??
