Night Owls

My dd is 9 and has always been a night owl. Persuading her to calm down and go to bed before 9 p.m. is difficult, because she doesn't seem tired ! Getting her up and getting a move on in the morning is not easy. Am sitting here in tears because I shouted at her this morning - was spending hours fiddling with her hair and we were nearly late for school. She is so bad-tempered as well and simply won't get herself ready.

Any suggestions will be welcome. I am feeling terrible. Unfortunately school is not geared to night owls. Have tried to stay calm - failed miserably this morning. Went out to see all other mothers looking immaculate and chatting happily to their children. Find the school run very demoralising at times like these.

You say go to bed at 9 pm. Is she going to sleep then, or reading for a bit? Does she have an alarm clock?

Avalon - I try to get her to read a bit and calm down - difficult ! She does have an alarm clock. I woke her a bit earlier on Friday and it seemed to help. Think she is going through a new phase of playing up a bit and asserting her independence. Keep trying, I suppose !
