21 month old nap & bedtime

My 21 month old DS naps every day from around 1pm-3pm. Recently, however, he doesn’t seem to be tired at his usual bedtime (around 8:30pm) and it can be 10pm or even later by the time he eventually falls asleep. Does this mean he doesn’t need to nap anymore? Or is the nap too long and should I wake him up before 3pm?

Any advice would be great, thanks!

At that age my DS would nap 12-2pm, we always woke him at 2pm so preserve bedtime. You could try bringing the nap forward, depending on wake up time in the morning, or shorten it, wake after 90 mins, see how that goes then if no good after an hour? If he's going to sleep well for the nap he might still need it but just not as long.

My DS was 2.5 when he stopped napping, bedtime was starting to creep later before he did drop the nap. It will vary between children when they stop so you might be heading towards it.

We dropped the nap and brought his bedtime to 7pm. He sleeps thru now
