What age do they stop napping?

DS is 2.8 and sleeps 11-12 hours at night and still has a nap after lunch, anything from 1hr to 2.5hrs. no issue going to bed if he does a long nap. At what age do they generally stop napping? No health issues, he had his tonsils and adenoids out in January.

I'm 32 and I still have a nap every day Grin

But I think it depends on the child. My two year old still sleeps for over two hours every lunchtime but lots of his friends seem to have stopped napping already.

My ds2 kept going until just shy of 4.

DD stopped at 12 months, DS stopped at around 2. Depends on the child.

DD is 21 months and has 2 hours ideally sleeping no later than 2pm.

Really hope she doesn’t stop napping! I need that time!

Me too @iris! Thanks for the replies, I'm conscious of being aware that eventually a day time nap might lead to a 10pm bedtime so I'd need to drop it then.

Different situation here as my twins are autistic and one in particular has dreadful sleep. They stopped napping completely at 11 months but then started again about 14 months and would have 2 hrs every day. We stopped them when they turned 3 as night time sleep was so bad, but it’s still awful. One of them still gets exhausted in the day - by 3pm he’s often really distressed - but if he naps at all then he doesn’t sleep til midnight.

As long as his night time sleep is currently so good (I’m beyond jealous!) then I wouldn’t worry about it for now.

Mine stopped around 3.5 yrs.

My DD dropped her nap at around 2 and a half but when she started reception there were some mums saying their kids still had a nap in the day and were worried how they'd cope so I'd say it can vary with age quite a lot.

Frustratingly mine all stopped about 18months!!! My friends DS was still having after lunch naps with no effect on night time just before he went to school! If mine slept after lunch they were incredibly grumpy and did not settle at bed time so we just kept them awake, had a slightly grumpy child in the early evening then an early bed. It really does vary from child to child but I would not change it until you have to.

I’m a childminder so have seen many dc through this transition. I’d say anywhere between around their second birthday and starting school. I’ve had two (with autumn birthdays, so nearly 5) who were both napping as they started school. Occasionally one of them would fall asleep at school and they’d have to wake her up for home time.
My own dc1 stopped napping around her third birthday, dc2, around his second birthday, dc3 when she started school (and she would still nap occasionally At weekends and holidays through year 1).

Mine were very shortly after they turned 2. I was always jealous of people whose kids were still napping age 2 1/2

My DD is 3 next month and still napping; recently she’s been fighting her nap so I left it and she fell asleep at 6pm which wasn’t good so we’re carrying on with it until it effects her bedtime or night time sleep

My baby girl just turned 2, and Iv got the sinking feeling she may be ready to drop her last nap 😴
She's started fighting it over the last week or so. I've always had to walk her in the push chair for the afternoon nap but lately she's been seriously fighting it. Eventually going off after a long or multiple walks in pram, but still sleeping for 2 hours. The fact that she's fighting it so much is making it more of a problem for all involved. I think I'm going to try today with no nap !!! Pray for me 🙏🏼🤣
