What to buy my newborn to sleep in? Due 13th June

Hi,

My baby is due 13th June and to be honest I'm not sure what is best for him to wear for bed? The weather may be warmer but it is the UK after all so not sure what is best. I've got some body vests and a couple of onesies I've bought to take to hospital for him when he's born. But I'll be honest I'm clueless. I've read about swaddling him, using a grobag, etc. but I'm not sure what's best. I'm trying to plan ahead due to not being able to go shopping so going to have to rely on getting things delivered. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile x

How exciting that LO will be here soon! My DS was born on 21st June last year when it was very very warm. For the first few days we had him in sleepsuits but it was too got so quickly had him in just a short sleeved vest. He hated blankets, still does (even though I’ve got some beautiful ones 😭) so we bought a grosnug but he preferred having his arms out The Gro Company Bennie The Bear Grosnug 2-in-1 Swaddle and Newborn Grobag, 0-3 Months, Cosy www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KRWNBH4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lpXFEbG7J34ZQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

My lo was (and still is at 14 month) in sleepbags. They are great because it gives you guidance on what they should be dressed in depending on the temperature of the room

I had a baby a similar time last year. He wore the grosnuggle a pp has linked with a short sleeved body suit under, or just a nappy when it was hot.

I think there is a minimum weight limit for the sleeping bags (DS was big so hit it at birth) - you might need cellular blankets for a couple of weeks - I got some nice ones from Asda for pretty cheap

We used little swaddle wraps, they were made from breathable cotton and had velcro so they couldn't ride up. Baby in onesie underneath, added a cellular blanket for warmth. He looked like a dear little burrito. The swaddling definitely helped him sleep.

I've used an 'arms up swaddle' for both of mine and would definitely recommend. If you Google it the website should come up and it has info about tog ratings and sizes etc
Also would second looking at the gro company website because they have charts about what to dress baby in for what temperatures. Good luck with everything!

I used a love to dream swaddle when DS was newborn, I could only get it in a lower tog so added a blanket as he was a winter baby but it would be perfect for a summer baby.
