I've been trying to get my 4 month old ds down for the past hour....he will only fall asleep on me which I'm trying to stop at night as if I don't get an hour to myself in the evening I don't get any time to myself....any tips welcomed!!

What is his bedtime routine? Is he bottle or breastfed? My ds would only go to sleep on his own in his cot if we propped his bottle up he would finish it and go straight to sleep rather than trying to transfer him into his cot asleep he would always wake up. I know this is probably not advised but it worked for us he’s now 7 months old and we still pop him in his cot with a bottle and he’s asleep as soon as it’s finished.

He has a bath, gets in his pjs, light and music box is on, he's breastfeeding so is fed and this is where we have trouble...He'll have a dummy sometimes, when he does it's much easier but if he won't we can be there for hours until he'll either fall asleep on me and I can put him down asleep or he'll eventually take his dummy and fall asleep.
I have left him for a small time to cry, either in the next room or watching on the monitor and he just winds himself up to the point of making himself cough.

It's so frustrating because we have a lovely calm relaxing routine then he goes down and gets so upset.

My daughter was the exact same and I thought I would never get my evenings back. I constantly slept with her in my bed or on me and thought I was creating bad habits. I decided to put her in her own room at 5 months and when she was 5 and a half months she started going down at 7 and I finally got my evenings back. Hang in there, it will get better!!
