Baby chomping on hands

We are currently trying to teach our 6 month old baby to go to sleep in her cot, but she has started chomping on her hands a lot. She gets more and more irate whilst doing it, but as soon as I slide them away she stops crying and goes to sleep.
Anyone else had this? / got some tips on how to stop her doing it? I don't think she is teething at the moment so not linked to that and I put her to bed fully fed!

From what I remember my twins were doing that for a few weeks before we could notice teeth growing through, their first lot of teeth took a long time from the gnawing phase to spotting them coming up through the gum. Have you tried her with anything to soothe her gums just in case?

If you have and it hasn’t worked could it be her attempt at self soothing? My DS - now 2yo - still bites his wrist on occasion (gently thankfully) when settling down for sleep.

We used dummies for when we were sleep training our twins, it did help. DD also really took to stroking her own face with a comfort blanket around that age as well.

Thanks for your suggestions
She didn't do it with her last teeth, but I suppose you never know with these small people! Nothing if not unpredictable!! May be it will just stop itself in that case!
I have thought it was a soothing attempt but it seems to have the opposite effect!!
Sadly she has never worked out a dummy, similarly to her hands she chomps on them rather than sucking!!
Not tried a comfort blanket though, can maybe give that a go!
