Before becoming a parent I didn’t realise how obsessed I would become over sleep & the question it brings: does he nap enough, should he self settle, how can I make him sleep for longer etc etc so I’m asking for your babies sleep patterns to see if my babies sleep is average for this age.

So DS is 15 weeks and EBF. Everytime I think he’s settling into a consistent routine his sleep changes but roughly this is his sleep pattern.

Awake for the day between 7&8am.

Awake for 2 hours and then nap between 9-10 depending on when he woke up. Usually 30-40 minutes long.

Awake for 2 hours then has another nap, sometimes this 30-40 minutes or it can be between 1-2 hours.

Awake for 2 hours and then another nap, if he hasn’t had his long nap then this sleep is using 1-2 hours, if not it’s 30-40 mins.

Awake for 2hours and then another nap of 30-40 minutes.

He has a cat nap around 7pm, where he sleeps for 30 minutes. He is then bathed, fed and put down for the night between 8 and 8:30pm. We have tried doing the bedtime routine at 7 but he wakes up after 50 minutes, but if he goes down at 8 he will sleep for 3-4 hours.

During the night he is up between every 2-3 hours. He has been fed to sleep up until now but we are trying to gently introduce self settling, so for two of his naps yesterday he was cuddled to sleep, for the other two he was put down awake and self settled. He was fed to sleep at bedtime and was fed back to sleep during 2 of the 3 night wake ups.

I feel like the past 3 months of very broken sleep (& the months of pregnancy insomnia) has hit me like a sledgehammer so I’m losing all perspective of what is normal at this age!

Forgot to say, for the past 3/4 days he hasn’t had a long nap, just four short naps so I’m worried he isn’t getting enough sleep!

This seems very similar to my 16wo who is also EBF. Every day is a bit different and sometimes he surprises me with a longer nap or a later bed time.
I'm either rocking or nursing to sleep and plan to do this for several more months as I feel there is no harm and he is still too little to self settle (he just cries and works himself up when I've tried leaving him to sleep for very short periods).
Most naps are on me or someone else as when we put him down he wakes up immediately. I always try to put him down twice but if he wakes up a 2nd time just give in and let him nap on me!

@GetTheSprinkles Thankyou for replying! I’m glad your little ones routine seems similar - it’s reassuring to know.

I do wonder if DS has hit the 4 month sleep regression as his nighttime sleep has gone backwards, more frequently waking etc.

I actually thought the same last week as he was suddenly waking hourly but he's back to normal now so I think it may have been the cold/congestion he had. It's hard to know what's normal!

@GetTheSprinkles DS was up 8 times last night - definitely the sleep regression! 😫🙈
