Previously good sleeper seems to have insomnia?

My 17 month old DD has been a good sleeper since a few months old, sleeping through from about 10 months, and has no trouble self settling.

However, she had recently started waking about 2 or 3 am, and can't seem to get back to sleep. I don't think she is in pain or discomfort, based on the type of cries, and when we have given painkiller it had made no difference. We've tried water, milk, food, cuddling, rocking, ignoring, nothing seems to work. Last night she woke at 3.30 and didn't go back to sleep. She seemed sleepy and calm, but just couldn't /wouldn't nod off.

Any ideas? She did have a burst eardrum last week and has had a course of antibiotics, not sure if that may still be an issue?
